These were words I wrote in a recent online discussion, in which the question posed was "Why do you want to be an artist?" This was my tongue in cheek response. A friend asked me to type it up for art.
Some of my experiences with artists are walls of judgement, about what it means to be an artist, what an artist is or isn't, what art is and isn't.
I define myself, I don't let people do it for me.
As long as I am an artist, which I expect will be a lifetime, I hope I never develop the stance that being an artist is without merit unless I am making a certain amount of money a year.
I believe any person who creates art is an artist.
People assign value to art, and to artists...but I am not an artist because someone else declares it, I am an artist because I create art.
I am blessed to know many great and encouraging artists as well. =D
"Take a dive into my curious mind." Angelina is a Chicagoland native. She credits her military experience for her love of cultural diversity and inclination to explore, which is reflected in her uncommon mixed media art. Her portfolio speaks for itself with dynamic digitals, exploratory acrylics, and nature photography that celebrates her inner free spirit. Artful vision has always been a significant part of Angelina's life, but serious focus on her art began in 2007 when she started marketing and exhibiting publicly. She has quickly gained the respect of peers, having established relationships with publishers, authors, print media, designers, as well as retail and decor venues. All work in this gallery is the original work of Angelina...

Well done, Angelina. Liked.
Angelina Tamez replied:
=) Thank you. I was in a bit of a sarcastic mood that day. Not my usual self. But...it's gets a little wearying with the negativity sometimes.

Artistic freedom is threatened when art is challenged because of its content, message or viewpoint, rather than because of its aesthetic qualities or artistic merit.
Angelina Tamez replied:
Excellent thoughts. I think there is room for challenge in art. It creates the dynamic of having a reason to believe or not believe something about art. There are so many aspects to art...they are all worth consideration.
